Chinese Artists Association(CAA for Short)is the only one national academic organizations of fine art in China．Founded in，July 1949 it was one of organizations of initiating the Chinese People's Po1itical Consultative Conference.By holding exhibitions,publishing journals,organizing its members to conduct creative practice ,art research and theoretic study,carrying out international art exchange,CAA makes great efforts to develop the fine art with contemporary essence and national features and contributes to Chinese modernize construction.

CAA based in Beijing has group members in32 provinces (except in Taiwan),autonomous regions , cities and Xijiang construction military unit.As a comprehensive organization of fine art in China CAA takes in the people who did outstanding achievement in various aspect of art as its members.Now CAAhas 7072 individual members including national well-know artists of Chinese painting,oil-painting, graphic art,caricature,story-picture,sculpture arts and crafts,architecture art,well-known art educators,theoretic critics,art organizers,art editors and folk artists.

The supreme power of CAA belongs to its national congress,which is held in every 5 years.During the congress representatives select the council.The council members select presidium.Secretary General Session by presidium.Under the presidium there are international department,membership department,exhibition department,research department,art commission, department.Now CAA has over 47work members and is supported by the government.

CAA has the following art committees for all the fine art genres,which are frequently involved in organizing various academic interactions.They are Chinese painting art committee,oil painting art committee,graphic art committee,sculpture art committee , water color painting art committee,lacquer painting art committee,fresco painting art committee,ceramic art committee,illustration and layout art committee,story-picture art committee,caricature art committee,children fine art committee,New Year painting art committee,theoretic art committee.CAA also has 18 creative centers and 4 drawing bases all over the country where artists could learn the nature and make their creation.

CAA always regards finding talent and dis;laying wonderful artworks as its duty.The nation-wide comprehensive art exhibitions are held every five years and play very important role in developing Chinese fine art and each exhibition has deep influence around the country .The people whose artworks won the prize in one or more national exhibitions now are the artists with high reputation or the chairmen of all kinds of art colleges and Academies of painting.CAA publishes"Fine Art" and "Artists Communication".The former is the most authoritative fine art periodical in the country and the latter is only opened to CAA members and reflects art trends,art information ,art achievement,and discussing art theory.

Whit the development of China CAA obtains great achievement on international art communication ,which is one of the most important duties of CAA such as exchanging artists'delegations with foreign art organizations,holding exhibitions inside and outside."Armand Hammer art exhibition"held in Beijing in 1982;"FuGangTieZhai touring exhibition"held in China in 1986;"China four seasons art exhibition "and "Chinese and Japanese artists drawing China exhibition"held in Japan in 1991 and 1992; "Exhibition of famous western painting collection of Tokyo Fuji art museum"held in Beijing in 1992 and president Jian Zeming wrote the name of the exhibition.It was the first time in China to introduce western painting on such big scale from the Renaissance to 20th century.Among the 70 pieces of original artworks most of them were masterpieces;"China rrom 1993to 1995 ;"France painting exhibition "and "100 years Russia art exhibited the artworks of famous artists of ex-Soviet unionfrom 1950s to 1990s and 222pieces of artworks from 16artists played active role in the development of Chinese oil painting;"China Japan and France art exhibition" held in Beijing separately in the year of 1999,2000,2001.From 1980s to now CAA held the Chinese contemporary art exhibitions to introduce the present conditions of Chinese fine art in Japan,Koran,Malaysia ,Thailand, Singapore,Syria,America,Australia ,Germany,Italy,Spain,Hungary,Lithuania,Hong Kong,Macao and Tai Wan.
The activities above;lay very important role in developing Chinese fine art,expanding the influence of Chinese art in the world,knowing the international trends,promothing the friendship and cooperation between Chinese and foreign artists.

At the beginning of a new century CAA meets new opportunities and challenges on the international exchanges.Joining the International Association of Art of UNESco, preparing the art actibity of China and France Cultural Years and planning to hold international art exhibitions on high level regularly are the three most important programs of CAA.

In a word,CAA,being the national professional organization of artists in China ,has been playing an indispensable role in the nation's fine art sphere.
