Appreciation of the Silk Road thematic works of the 7th Beijing Biennale 2017(Chinese works)

2017-11-07

——Salute to the Silk Road

While expressing the theme “The Silk Road and World Civilizations”, Chinese artists do not at all conceal their aesthetic ambitions. As a matter of fact, it is the exact ideal and concept of the 7th Beijing Biennale to work on the construction of modern Chinese fine arts system, with the Silk Road as its driving force and resource. It has been a well-known practice for modern Chinese fine arts to expedite the birth of a new aesthetic form with a new subject. In this sense, artistic creation upon the subject “The Silk Road and World Civilizations” foretells a great opportunity for Chinese aesthetics. A survey of the works offers a view on the cultural scene: the spirit and subjects of the Silk Road have awakened the power of imagination and thirst for aesthetics which are now continuously transformed into artistic experiments in new forms and languages. Enough evidence can be found in traditional Chinese paintings, lacquer paintings, oil paintings, prints, sculptures and even video arts.
